UX and Product Design Work

I have had the opportunity to work on a variety of compelling projects in UX and Product Design over the past few years. Below are brief summaries of my work. Please click the button to delve into the detailed processes behind each project.

Guardian Life

As a dedicated UX/product designer for the company's business and consumer product experiences for over 2 years, I develop user flows, high-fidelity wireframes, and interactive prototypes to deeply understand experiences and address the complex challenges our users encounter. My approach revolves around applying a human-centered design philosophy to create meaningful digital interactions that cater to the needs and preferences of our target audience. I also collaborate with the conversational AI team to improve user experiences and deepen understanding of the technology.

Guardian is a financial institution that prides itself on protecting user’s privacy. My work has been primarily internal, authenticated experiences, which unfortunately I can’t display here, but get in touch and I can give you an overview of my UX work process.

FreeSpot

FreeSpot is a marketplace platform designed to reduce waste by facilitating the exchange and acquisition of various resources at no charge. I, along with J. Estevez, S. Marca, and M. Tsuji, form the UX design team tasked by FreeSpot to identify and address usability challenges. Our goal is to develop a redesign that enhances the experience for its community of over 2000 subscribers.

Other Creative Work

  • Fashion design: I’ve been an independent fashion designer for over 10 years. At any moment, you can find me immersed in the creation of a fresh collection. User experience is interwoven into my fashion projects through thorough research and understanding client needs.

  • Public speaking: Over the past 4 years, I have presented at several symposia focused on Prince, particularly delving into his distinctive approach to fashion and style across his career.

  • Podcast: And speaking of Prince, I co-host and produce a podcast on this legend.

I started sewing when I was 10 years old but took an extended break from my teens into adulthood. After brushing up my skills in classes with a local designer, I fell in love with the art all over again, and have now dedicated the past decade to establishing myself as a committed independent fashion designer.

I have presented at the Harlem Fashion Week shows for seasons 9 and 10, and at the Africa Fashion Week, and Fashion Envie shows in New York City. My work has garnered attention in the press due to my distinct eye for color and the merging of vibrant themes with cultural intricacies.

Like a Nasty Girls Group?

On March 31st, 2023 I presented at the TripleThreat40 symposium held at NYU Tandon. This was an academic conference highlighting Prince’s iconic 1999 album and tour. I spoke on Prince’s protege group, Vanity 6 and their hit single Nasty Girl (they also performed with Prince during that tour). I gave a brief history of female singing groups and spoke on the possible influence the civil rights movement, blaxploitation films, and the sexual revolution had on Prince’s view of women during his formative years.

Bedlah Bedlam:

An Exploration of Orientalist Fantasy and Fashion Via the Lens of Prince Rogers Nelson.

On March 27th, 2022, I participated in the #SexyMF30 Virtual Symposium where 31 speakers, including academics, music journalists, podcasters, authors, and independent scholars, convened to discuss Prince's cherished Love Symbol/ O(+> album. During the symposium, I delivered a presentation focusing on the themes of Orientalism, Bellydance, and the interconnections between African-American Jazz musicians and the Middle East. I also delved into how Prince's clothing designers skillfully integrated Middle Eastern influences into his wardrobe throughout that era.

The O+> Paradigm.

During the summer of 2020, a fun idea tossed around between two music nerds and Prince fans blossomed into an interactive webinar and podcast series that has reached a global audience!

As the Co-Host, Executive Producer, Designer, and Marketing Director of our show focusing on the life and art of Prince Rogers Nelson, we delve into introspective presentations, engage our audience with interactive games, moderated guest panels, curated themed DJ music sets, and showcase special guest stars who collaborated with Prince throughout his career. Drawing on my UX skills has enabled me to understand our audience's preferences, leading to continuous enhancements and growth of the show with every episode. Wearing numerous hats, I also serve as the Content Writer, Video Editor, and Booker & Guest Coordinator for the production.

General Assembly student UX projects

General Assembly was the school where I cut my teeth on all things UX. There we embarked on projects that led us on complex journeys to uncover user needs and to craft products that meet those needs effectively. Each project culminated in a comprehensive case study, which you can explore below.

This UX Design project/case study report delves deep into the meticulous research and innovative design process, offering a comprehensive overview of the creation of a mobile app. The app serves as a gateway for users to immerse themselves in the beauty of nature, all within the confines of their homes.

Al Di La.

My team and I were tasked with designing a new responsive website for the popular Park Slope eatery, Al Di La. This project was a collaborative effort between the UXDI co-horts and the SEI co-horts at General Assembly. We were all pretty happy and proud of the results. Now were all just waiting on the free pasta!
